Shared Memory for GitHub Copilot
Shared with your team and across your AI tools.
MMRY AI gives GitHub Copilot shared memory that you share with your team and across your AI tools: one memory that GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT and your other connected AI tools all read and save. Add MMRY AI to VS Code as a remote MCP server once, and what Copilot saves in agent mode is there in your other tools on the same account. Memories you share with your team are there for each teammate in the AI tools they connect.

How to set up MMRY AI in GitHub Copilot
- Start your free trial. Create your MMRY AI account at mmryai.com/setup.
- Create your Copilot MCP configuration. In VS Code, create and open the file mcp-config.json in the .copilot folder in your home folder (~/.copilot/mcp-config.json). If you set COPILOT_HOME, create it in that folder instead.
- Add MMRY AI. Under mcpServers, add a server named mmry with type http and url https://mmryai.com/mcp, as shown below, and save the file.
- Start the server. In the Command Palette, run MCP: List Servers, select mmry, and choose Start. If VS Code asks whether you trust the server, confirm it.
- Sign in. When the MMRY AI sign-in page opens in your browser, sign in to your MMRY AI account and approve the connection. If VS Code asks to let the server sign in first, allow it.
- Use it in agent mode. Open Copilot Chat, select Agent, and ask Copilot to load your MMRY memories. If Copilot asks you to confirm a tool, select Continue.

VS Code recommends this portable file for new servers, and it works across compatible Copilot tools. You can also run MCP: Add Server in the Command Palette and follow the guided flow, choosing Copilot Global to save MMRY AI to the same file. VS Code also reads servers from your user profile: run MCP: Open User Configuration and add the same entry under servers.
What GitHub requires
GitHub lists access to Copilot and Visual Studio Code 1.99 or later. On Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise, an organization or enterprise must turn on the MCP servers in Copilot policy, which is off by default. Copilot Free, Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+ and Copilot Max are not governed by that policy.
What works in GitHub Copilot
- Load memories you saved in Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Gemini
- Search your memories
- Save new memories as you work
- Choose who can see each memory you save, and change it later
- Works in Copilot Chat agent mode in VS Code, in every workspace
Shared memory for GitHub Copilot: FAQ
What is shared memory for GitHub Copilot?
Shared memory for GitHub Copilot means memory shared with your team and across your AI tools. GitHub Copilot reads and saves the same memories as your Claude Code and Codex sessions and your other AI tools, and the memories you share with your team are there for each teammate in the AI tools they connect. MMRY AI keeps those memories in your MMRY AI account, so what Copilot saves in VS Code is there in Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT and Claude when they are connected to the same account, and the other way round.
Is GitHub Copilot the same as Microsoft Copilot?
No. GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot are different products. This page covers GitHub Copilot in VS Code, and Microsoft Copilot connects to MMRY AI through a Copilot Studio agent instead.
Does GitHub Copilot remember previous chats with MMRY AI?
Yes, through your MMRY AI account. In any new chat in agent mode, ask Copilot to load your MMRY memories and it picks up your most recent memories, or ask it to search for something specific you saved.
How do I add an MCP server to GitHub Copilot in VS Code?
Create ~/.copilot/mcp-config.json, add a server named mmry with type http and url https://mmryai.com/mcp under mcpServers, then run MCP: List Servers to start it and sign in to your MMRY AI account. Copilot uses the MMRY AI tools in agent mode.
Do I need a client ID or secret?
No. VS Code first registers itself with MMRY AI through dynamic client registration, so you only sign in. VS Code asks for a client ID only when a server does not support dynamic client registration.
Which Copilot plans can use MCP servers?
GitHub's MCP policy applies only to Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise, where your organization or enterprise must turn on the MCP servers in Copilot policy, which is off by default. Copilot Free, Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+ and Copilot Max are not governed by that policy, and GitHub lists access to Copilot as the requirement.
Can GitHub Copilot share memory with Claude Code and Codex?
Yes. Connect GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Claude Code and Codex to the same MMRY AI account, and they read and save the same memories. Claude Code and Codex connect through the MMRY AI plugin, and ChatGPT and Claude connect with the same address, https://mmryai.com/mcp.
Can my team share memories through GitHub Copilot?
Yes. Each person on your team signs in to their own MMRY AI account in your organization, and each memory is private, shared with a memory group, or open to your organization. VS Code lets you keep a workspace MCP configuration in source control, so your team can share the same MMRY AI server entry.
How do I correct or remove a memory I saved in GitHub Copilot?
Ask Copilot to save the correction as a new memory, and remove a memory in Claude Code or Codex. Copilot can also make a memory you saved private, so only you see it.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. MMRY AI starts with a 14-day free trial, then continues on a per-user monthly plan; the current price is at mmryai.com/pricing. Every user adds credits to your team's shared pool, and if the pool runs out before the month ends your plan renews early so your team keeps working.
